A Way of Life
Farming is a life commitment. The work is back breaking, the demands are constant and the rewards meagre.
More often than not, you’re born in to farming. Land and farms handed down through generations.
William is a farmer well into retirement age who has run Hornbuckle farm since the age of 15. After 56 years of successful toil he explores the succession of his beloved farm and its uncertainty.
Directors statement:
Williams story felt important to tell as British farming enters a new era. With support for farming from governments & local councils limited, and the incredibly competitive food production market – this is just a slice of the big daunting reality farmers are facing. This is a story of succession, and it’s a common theme amongst farmers across the country. When it’s time to hand over the keys, why not sell the land for property development, rather than years of backbreaking toil. The initial monetary gain will be huge, and work load small – but what impact will that have on the UK’s food industry when all the farms are flats.
